8th ASIA TEFL Annual International Conference

The Asian Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (ASIA TEFL) was established in 2000 with the goal of promoting high-quality English language teaching in Asian countries. This year, the University of Languages & International Studies, VNU has agreed to host the 8th annual international conference from 6 to 8 August 2010 at La Thanh Guest House, Hanoi. The them of this three-day conference is “Teaching English as a Global Language: Creating and Sharing an Asian Framework of Practice”, focusing on exchanging research outcomes and setting up directions for a new paradigm in teaching English as a global language. The conference will seat approximately 700 participants, 400 of whom are from outside Vietnam. More than 1,400 proposals were submitted, and 400 have been selected to be presented at the conference. Six scholars of international reputation from Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia have been invited as plenary speakers. In addition, there will be other eight invited speakers featuring issues related to teaching English at the primary school. The British Council Vietnam, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology of Australia (RMIT), and Oxford University Press are major sponsors of the conference. The University of Languages & International Studies hopes that this will be a great opportunity for Vietnamese scholars and practitioners in the field of English language teaching to sharing experience with, and learn from, their colleagues around the world.
